The Danish-born founder of the castle, knight Erik Axelsson Tott, decided that a powerful fortification should be built to protect the strategically important Savonia region. The castle was to repel Russian attacks from the east and to guarantee the control of the Savonia region for the Swedish Crown. The history of Olavinlinna Castle is a mixture of power struggles between the east and the west, medieval arms clashing, cannons roaring and everyday chores inside the castle\u2019s thick walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-width wp-block-button__width-75 has-custom-font-size\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-accent-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/travelsaimaa.z-a.fi\/index.php\/olavinlinna-castle\/\" style=\"border-radius:100px\">See more<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hyterm\u00e4 \u2013 the Legacy of Romu-Heikki<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyterm\u00e4 islands in Kerim\u00e4ki (Puruvesi, Lake Saimaa) are one of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit in Lake Saimaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyterm\u00e4 nature reserve and museum islands are located about 7 km from the centre of Kerim\u00e4ki towards H\u00e4lv\u00e4. Hyterm\u00e4 was declared a protected nature area in the year 1931, and the fact that is has survived almost completely in its natural state is all down to an ex-rural police chief&nbsp; Heikki V\u00e4yrynen (1916-1940), a.k.a. With its hundreds of islands and big open waters, it is a true paradise for anyone exploring it via water. And for hikers, there are many well-marked nature paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In winter, tour skating, kicksledding, cross-country skiing, walking or a pulled sledge are ways of moving around in the national park. The tour skating and winter walking route goes from Oravi via Linnansaari to Nature Hotel &amp; Spa Resort J\u00e4rvisyd\u00e4n.
